There are many reasons to visit the historic city of Bath – and its bustling Christmas market has to be one of the most popular ones.

Bath Christmas Market offers a great opportunity to pick up some unique, handmade gifts for loved ones while also enjoying a host of edible treats and entertainment.

This year, the market takes place between November 25th and December 12th in the city centre, with 123 stalls set to be put up in the area between Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths.

Each of these stalls – which look like little wooden chalets – will sell a wide range of gifts and decorations, all of which are one-offs sure to make for the perfect Christmas present for a friend or relative.

Once you’ve shopped till you drop, you can have a rest and sample some of the delicious food and drink on offer at the market, whether you fancy a gourmet burger, organic broth, some fresh pancakes or a glass of warming mulled cider.

In terms of entertainment, you can expect to enjoy performances by Christmas carol singers and musicians, while young ones will love the Victorian Galloper Carousel and shows by children’s entertainers.

If you’re staying in self catering accommodation in Bath for a few days, you might want to take some time to see the city’s various other attractions.

History buffs will want to tour the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and other sites that have helped the destination to become a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Meanwhile, the Jane Austen Centre offers a detailed exhibition on the life and works of the writer – who lived in Bath for a while – as well as the chance to relax and enjoy an elegant afternoon tea at the Regency Tea Rooms upstairs.

Other potential activities include immersing yourself in the mineral-rich waters of the Thermae Bath Spa and making a day trip or two to regional sites such as Stonehenge and Longleat, which is home to a historic property constructed from the famous Bath stone, as well as a large safari park ideal for keeping the kids entertained.
