The traditional flowers are the best as they have a meaning and story behind them. First class examples include the Poinsettia, Holly, Mistletoe, Christmas cactus, Christmas Garland, Christmas rose and the evergreen Christmas tree.
The Poinsettia is a Christmas flower that originates from Mexico. The leaves have a star shape, which many believe to symbolize the Christmas star. The bright red color represents the blood sacrificed by Jesus. The flower is known by many names such as Crown of the Andes and Flower of the Holy Night. The flower is commonly red but there are other pink and white varieties.
The Christmas rose is the true flower for Christmastime. The white flower with pink tips seems to have its origin from the night of Christmas, when an angel presented it to a shepherdess. The mistletoe brings peace and love as well as goodwill wherever it is adorned. The evergreen Christmas tree is popularly known as the paradise tree. The idea of using the tree stems from Germany, where apples have been used to decorate the tree. Those who welcome the tree into their homes will be granted life, immortality and protection from all evil.
The Christmas garland also brings peace and life, a European tradition which was introduced by European settlers in America. The cactus flowers blossom into red or pink and has green leaves which are the Christmas colors. This is the same with the holly, which has green leaves with red berries.
All Christmas flowers have a message and their beauty is a symbol of the true meaning of Christmas.
